HAMBURG, Germany (Ticker) -- Guillermo Jones captured the WBA cruiserweight championship with a 10th-round technical knockout of Firat Arslan at the Color Line Arena on Saturday.
A native of Panama, Jones (36-3-2, 28 KOs) never knocked down the champion but delivered a beating to Arslan over the course of the bout.
Arslan (29-4-1) was bleeding badly from his nose and lip when referee Luis Pabon stepped in with 27 seconds remaining in the 10th to call a halt to the bout. Ring doctors had inspected the German southpaw on more than one occasion prior to the stoppage.
The 36-year-old Jones, who began his career at welterweight, has won his last five fights.
Arslan, 37, had his 11-fight winning streak snapped.
