MONTREAL 40, EDMONTON 4 -----------------------
MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Montreal Alouettes increased their stranglehold on the East Division with a 40-4 blowout victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in a matchup between two of the league's top passers.
Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo threw for 411 yards and a pair of touchdowns, completing 31-of-38 passes along the way, as the Alouettes (9-4) broke out for 30 first-half points to put the game quickly out of reach.
Calvillo, who leads the league with 28 touchdown tosses this season, faced off against Edmonton's Ricky Ray, a former Grey Cup MVP. Ray came into the afternoon leading the CFL with 3,672 yards, but was manhandled by the stout Montreal defense.
Ray was sacked six times and lost two fumbles. He finished with 156 yards on 14-of-17 passing for the Eskimos (7-6), who have lost two of their last three.
Running back Mike Imoh helped put the Alouettes in control early, scoring on a pair of touchdown runs in the second quarter. Later in the period, Calvillo found the end zone for the first time of the day, hitting Jamel Richardson for a 58-yard strike.
Calvilo connected with Kerry Watkins for a 10-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
