HAMILTON, Ontario (Ticker) -- Quinton Porter threw five touchdown passes as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats held off the Montreal Alouettes, 44-36.
The victory kept the Tigers-Cats (3-11) alive in the playoff picture after a game that saw 897 yards passing and nine touchdown strikes between Porter and the Alouettes' Anthony Calvillo.
Porter was making his second career start in place of injured Casey Printers. He went 27-of-32 for 429 yards.
The Tiger-Cats surged to a 24-3 lead in the second quarter only to see the Alouettes close within one point in the third quarter at 24-23.
Porter, who played at Boston College, then hooked up with Prechae Rodriguez for two touchdowns to give Hamilton some breathing room at 38-23.
The Alouettes (9-5) missed a chance to capture the top spot in the East Division despite Calvillo's 44-of-53 passing performance which was good for 468 yards and four touchdowns.
Montreal's Ben Cahoon became the leading receiver in CFL history. Cahoon caught 10 balls for 107 yards and two touchdowns and has 834 career receptions, pushing him past Ray Elgaard, who had 830 receptions for Saskatchewan from 1983-96.
EDMONTON 36, WINNIPEG 22 ------------------------
EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- Ricky Ray threw two touchdown passes as the Edmonton Eskimos posted a 36-22 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Maurice Mann and Andrew Nowacki each caught a score for the Eskimos (8-6), who outscored the Blue Bombers, 31-2, in the second period to take control of the game.
Trailing by 12 points after the first quarter, Edmonton needed to shift momentum and did so by faking a punt. Kicker Noel Prefontaine completed a 19-yard pass to Calvin McCarty, which led to Ray's 19-yard connection with Mann that cut the deficit to 14-9 and set the stage for the Eskimo outburst.
Edmonton took its first lead on Tristan Jackson's 67-yard punt return for a touchdown and never looked back.
Kevin Glenn was 8-of-13 for 147 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for Winnipeg (5-9).
