TORONTO (Ticker) -- Anthony Calvillo threw four touchdown passes, including two to Jamal Richardson, to lead the Montreal Alouettes to a 43-34 victory over the Toronto Argonauts.
Calvillo completed 32-of-45 passes for 336 yards while raising his season total to 42 touchdown passes. He is within six of Doug Flutie's season record and is 567 yards shy of his second career 6,000-yard season.
The Alouettes have two regular-season games remaining.
Montreal jumped to a 17-7 advantage after the first quarter on a pair of TD passes by Calvillo, a single and a safety. Richardson and Kerry Watkins hauled in the touchdowns.
Watkins led the Alouettes' receiving corps with nine catches for 88 yards.
The Argonauts made it interesting late in the fourth, when quarterback Kerry Joseph rushed for a four-yard TD early and got his team within 36-34 when he hit Reggie McNeal for a 91-yard score with 8:16 remaining.
Joseph finished with 400 yards passing and three touchdowns.
But Calvillo responded with a 36-yard TD pass to Brian Bratton three minutes later to seal the win.
The loss mathematically eliminated Toronto (4-12) from playoff contention, clinching second place in the East Division and a postseason berth for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Montreal (11-5) already has clinched first place in the East and home-field advantage.
CALGARY 37, WINNIPEG 16 -----------------------
CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers won even though they lost to the Calgary Stampeders, 37-16.
The Bombers clinched a playoff spot by virtue of the Toronto Argonauts' loss to the Montreal Alouettes earlier in the day. Winnipeg (6-10) has locked up second place in the East division and will play host to a semifinal on November 8.
On the field, the Blue Bombers weren't as fortunate as Henry Burris directed Calgary to a 21-3 lead in the first half and the Stampeders (11-5) cruised to victory.
Burris, who was 28-of-36 for 337 yards and five touchdowns, connected with Brett Ralph with an 8-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring.
After a Winnipeg field goal, Burris found Jermaine Copeland from 36 yards and Ken-Yon Rambo from 33 to open up the 18-point advantage.
Winnipeg replaced starting quarterback Kevin Glenn with Ryan Dinwiddie in the third quarter. The former Boise State standout found Romby Bryant for a 7-yard score to cut the deficit to 23-13.
Burris came right back and hit Teyo Johnson with a 5-yard pass to give Calgary a 30-13 advantage and put the game out of reach.
Alexis Serna had three field goals for Winnipeg.
No one has shouted yet.
