Alouettes sign WR Galas
Dec 5, 2008 - 2:17 PM MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Montreal Alouettes on Friday signed wide receiver Erik Galas to a two-year contract.Financial terms of the deal, which includes a team option for a third year, were not disclosed.
A standout slot back at McGill University, Galas is the CIS all-time leader with 194 receptions in 34 career games. He also established school records for most career receptions, yards (2,555) and receiving touchdowns (19).
"I'm pretty excited about this opportunity," the 6-2, 220-pound Galas said. "I think that I can compete for a roster spot in the CFL and will do the best I can.
"I'm happy to be with the Alouettes. It's a great fit for me, as my family and friends are nearby, and we play at Molson Stadium, where I will feel quite at home."
Galas made 64 receptions for 781 yards and six TDs in eight games last season. He will attempt to become the 23rd product of McGill to play for the Alouettes and 57th to suit up in a CFL contest.
This past season, three graduates of McGill appeared in the league, including linebacker Randy Chevrier of the Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders.
