Fleisher leads at SAS Championship

CARY, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Bruce Fleisher carded a 6-under 66 Saturday to take a one-shot lead after two rounds at the SAS Championship.

Fleisher began the round tied with a half dozen players at 4-under. He birdied three holes on the front nine and tallied another three on the back in his bogey-free round to move to 10-under at Prestonwood Country Club.

Tom Kite, who opened his round with nine consecutive pars, recorded six birdies on the back nine to card a 66 and pull within a shot of Fleisher.

Eduardo Romero is tied with Kite at 9-under after shooting a 5-under 67.

Mark McNulty followed a 1-over 73 in his opening round with a blistering 63 on Saturday, tying him with D.A. Weibring for the low round of the day. The 54-year-old began his bogey-free round four birdies on the back nine before birdying five straight holes on the front to climb within two shots of Fleisher.

Tied with McNulty at 8-under is John Cook, who birdied his last three holes to completed a 66.

Charles Schwab Cup leader Jay Haas, who leads runner-up Bernhard Langer by 139 points, following up his opening-round 75 with a 67 to move to 2-under for the tournament.

The leader on the Champions Tour money list, Langer shot even-par 72 for the second straight round.

Defending champion Mark Wiebe also signed for his second straight 72.

Fred Funk, who is 269 points back in third place, carded a 66 to move to 4-under entering the final round.

First prize is $315,000 in the $2.1 million tournament.
