VERNON, New York (Ticker) -- Vijay Singh has claimed the FedEx Cup and most of the big names have hung up the clubs for a while, but that doesn't mean there is nothing left to play for on the PGA Tour.
Money, or rather the money list, will be the name of the game for the rest of the PGA Tour's Fall Series, which continues this week at the Turning Stone Championship.
With a $6 million purse, the Turning Stone Championship has by far the most lucrative first prize of the seven Fall Series events. The field, which includes nine players who have already won this season, will be vying for a first-place check of just over $1 million.
Steve Flesch is the defending champion and a repeat win at Atunyote Golf Club would go a long way toward salvaging a nondescript season. A four-time PGA Tour winner, Flesch is 71st on the money list but had a sixth-place finish at the PGA Championship and a tie for 15th at the Deutsche Bank Championship in his last three starts.
Last year, Flesch got off to a fast start with rounds of 66-65-66 and then held on for a two-stroke win over Michael Allen after closing with a 73. The victory was his second of the season.
Joining Flesch at this event, which begins Thursday, are five players who made it to the Tour Championship last week - Dudley Hart, Carl Pettersson, Robert Allenby, Briny Baird and Ryuji Imada.
Also this week, Brad Faxon makes his first start of the season - he has been out since August 2007 due to knee surgery.
In trying to pick a winner, one may want to consider this recent trend - International players have won nine of the last 12 events on the PGA Tour, including all four in the FedEx Cup playoffs (Singh and Camilo Villegas).
