Cook repeats at AT&T Championship
Oct 27, 2008 - 2:48 AM SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) - John Cook fired a 6-under-par 65 on Sunday to successfully defend his title at the AT&T Championship.At 16-under 197, Cook finished three strokes ahead of Keith Fergus and picked up the is $247,500 first prize.
Cook entered the final round a stroke behind Jeff Sluman.
Cook vaulted into contention with an 8-under 63 in the second round and was almost as good Sunday. He bogeyed the first hole, but that was his lone mistake as he had seven birdies the rest of the way.
"I wasn't going to give this one away," Cook said. "Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper. I knew some guys were making a run at me. I had a number in mind and kept grinding to get to that number."
With the win, Cook joins Lee Trevino and Jim Albus as the only players to win back-to-back titles here.
"It's special to win here again," Cook said. "This course fits my eye. It's got great character and courses I like, I do well on."
