Wie closing in on securing LPGA Tour card

Dec 6, 2008 - 9:10 PM DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (Ticker) -- It will take a monumental collapse for Michelle Wie not to earn her LPGA Tour card for next year.

Wie played well down the stretch and is in second place after Saturday's fourth round of Q-School.

Wie saved par on three of her final four holes to complete a 4-under-par 68 that moved her to 14-under 274 and one shot of the lead.

Wie must finish in the top 20 to gain her card for next year. She is currently nine shots off the cutoff.

Still just 19, Wie battled a wrist injury and endured a disappointing 2008 campaign, missing three cuts and getting disqualified from another tournament among her nine LPGA events.

The lead belongs to Stacy Lewis (67), who is at 15-under overall.
