Singh to miss up to five weeks
Jan 7, 2009 - 5:05 PM KAPALUA, Hawaii (Ticker) -- Vijay Singh reportedly will have knee surgery following this week's Mercedes-Benz Championship and will miss up to five weeks of the PGA Tour season.According to a report in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin on Wednesday, Singh withdrew from next week's Sony Open in Hawaii, with several sources citing a knee injury as the reason.
Singh did not give the PGA Tour a reason for his withdrawal, but the report stated that the surgery will repair a torn meniscus.
Singh will play at Kapalua this week, then have the surgery, according to the Star-Bulletin.
Singh, who won the Mercedes-Benz Championship in 2007, is the top money winner playing this week.
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia are all skipping the event.
