MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Indians on Saturday signed righthander Jeff Weaver to a minor league contract.
Weaver, who has not pitched in the majors this season, was in the Milwaukee Brewers' minor league system from May 1 to June 11 at Class AAA Nashville. He was released after going 2-4 with an abysmal 6.22 ERA in nine starts.
Weaver, 31, also failed to find any success with Seattle last season, posting a 7-13 record and a 6.20 ERA in 27 starts. His disastrous campaign came one season after he won three playoff games in helping the St. Louis Cardinals win the 2006 World Series.
Known for his fragile mindset, Weaver owns a career record of 93-114 and a 4.72 ERA in 284 games.
