Phillies purchase contract of RHP Carpenter
Aug 28, 2008 - 12:09 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Phillies purchased the contract of righthander Andrew Carpenter from Class AA Reading on Wednesday.Carpenter, 23, has gone 9-11 with a 4.68 ERA in 24 starts with Reading and Class A affiliate Clearwater of the Florida State League this season.
In a corresponding move, Philadelphia designated infielder Andy Tracy for assignment. Tracy was 0-for-1 with a walk in his two plate appearances for the Phillies.
Lefthander Mike Zagurski, who is sidelined with an elbow injury, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Carpenter on the 40-man roster.
