Jeter, Lowell leave Yankees-Red Sox tilt
Sep 27, 2008 - 2:36 AM BOSTON (Ticker) -- With their fates already decided, both the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are taking precautions with their stars.Yankees captain Derek Jeter left Friday's game at Fenway Park in the third inning with soreness in his left hand, an injury that has bothered him since he was hit by a pitch on Saturday.
Jeter was 0-for-2 before being replaced by Cody Ransom.
Boston's Mike Lowell, who has been out of the lineup since September 16 with a torn labrum in his hip, had one at-bat Friday as the designated hitter, flying out to left field before being replaced by Chris Carter.
The Red Sox have clinched a playoff spot, while the Yankees will miss the postseason for the first time since 1993.
No one has shouted yet.
