Indians OF Choo named AL Player of the Month
Sep 29, 2008 - 5:42 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo on Monday was named the American League Player of the Month for September.Choo batted .400 (34-for-85) with five home runs and 24 RBI over 24 games en route to the first monthly honor of his career.
A South Korea native, Choo scored 21 runs and posted a .659 slugging percentage and .484 on-base percentage during the month.
The 26-year-old Choo finished the season with a .309 batting average with 14 blasts and 66 RBI. He collected 98 hits, the most ever by a Korean-born player.
Choo's teammate, Asdrubal Cabrera also received votes, along with Texas' Hank Blalock, Detroit's Miguel Cabrera, Los Angeles' Mark Teixeira, Kansas City's David DeJesus and Minnesota's Joe Mauer.
