Astros RHPs Sampson, Geary undergo surgery
Oct 2, 2008 - 7:37 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Houston Astros pitchers Chris Sampson and Geoff Geary both underwent surgery on Wednesday.Sampson had surgery in Houston to repair a torn tendon in his right elbow.
The 30-year-old Sampson, who is expected to recover in four to six months, was 6-4 with a 4.22 ERA over a career-high 54 appearances in 2008.
Geary underwent surgery in Philadelphia to repair a right hip adductor. During the operation, a tear to the abdomen was discovered and also repaired.
The recovery time for Geary is between four and six weeks. He is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
The 32-year-old Geary posted a 2-3 record with a 2.53 ERA in 55 appearances last season.
