MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks underwent knee surgery Monday morning, less than 24 hours after his team was eliminated from the National League playoffs.

Weeks had the surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and is expected to be fully healthy when the Brewers begin spring training next February.

The operation was performed by team physician Dr. William Raasch at Milwaukee's Froedtert Hospital. According to the Brewers, Weeks will begin rehabilitating from the injury later this week at his Florida home.

Weeks suffered the injury while running the bases Saturday night during Game Three of the NL Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. He went 0-for-4 in that contest, which the Brewers won, 4-1.

Philadelphia posted a 6-2 victory Sunday in Game Four to eliminate the Brewers and reach the NL Championship Series.

The 25-year-old Weeks, who is eligible for salary arbitration this offseason, batted a career-worst .234 with 14 home runs, 46 RBI and 19 stolen bases this year.

The second overall draft selection in 2003, Weeks has spent his entire five-year career with Milwaukee, batting .245 with 51 homers and 78 stolen bases.
