Nationals add Riggleman, others to coaching staff
Oct 24, 2008 - 6:11 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Nationals on Friday named Jim Riggleman the team's new bench coach. The Nationals also added first base coach Marquis Grissom, third base coach Pat Listach, hitting coach Rick Eckstein and bullpen coach Randy Knorr to the staff.
Washington had fired the majority of the coaching staff following a disappointing 59-102 season in 2008. Manager Manny Acta and pitching coach Randy St. Claire were the only ones to remain with the team.
Riggleman spent last season as the interim manager for the Seattle Mariners after John McLaren was fired in the middle of the year. He also managed the San Diego Padres (1992-94) and Chicago Cubs (1995-2000).
