Nationals OF Pena exercises option

Oct 30, 2008 - 9:47 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Washington Nationals outfielder Wily Mo Pena exercised his $2 million player option for the 2009 season on Thursday.

Pena's move came after the Nationals declined a $5 million club option for him.

Pena, 26, batted .241 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI in 101 games with Washington after he was acquired from the Boston Red Sox on August 17, 2007 for first baseman Chris Carter.

Washington also outrighted pitchers Chad Cordero and Ryan Wagner and infielder Pete Orr to Class AAA Syracuse of the International League.
