Athletics decline option on P Embree
Oct 31, 2008 - 9:05 PM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Athletics on Friday declined to exercise their $3 million option on Alan Embree for the 2009 season.Embree went 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 70 relief appearances last season.
The 38-year old lefthander has pitched at least 60 games in each of the last 10 seasons and has a career record of 37-43 with 25 saves and a 4.55 ERA in 846 appearances.
Also on Friday, the A's claimed infielder Joe Dillon off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Dillon split the 2008 season between Milwaukee and Class AAA Nashville, batting .213 with a home run and six RBI in 56 games with the Brewers. He also hit .263 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 46 games with Nashville.
