Brewers name Sveum hitting coach
Nov 4, 2008 - 11:19 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Dale Sveum, who served as the Milwaukee Brewers' interim manager for the final 12 games of the season, was named the team's hitting coach Tuesday.Sveum, 44, returns for his fourth year on the Brewers' coaching staff. He served as a third base coach in 2006 and a bench coach in 2007.
He spent most of the 2008 campaign as the team's hitting coach but took over as manager when Ned Yost was fired after the Brewers went 3-11 to start September.
Sveum guided the Brewers to a 7-5 record as they clinched the National League wild card for their first postseason appearance in 26 years.
Milwaukee lost to the eventual World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies in four games in the Division Series.
The Brewers named Ken Macha their new manager on Thursday.
