Piniella, Cubs retain entire coaching staff
Nov 12, 2008 - 8:17 PM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Lou Piniella and the Chicago Cubs have decided not to shake up their bench following an award-winning season.On the same day that Piniella was named the National League Manager of the Year, the Cubs announced Wednesday that the entire coaching staff will be retain for next season.
Larry Rothschild will be returning for his eighth season as the team's pitching coach. During the previous eight years, Chicago has led the major leagues in strikeouts.
Coming back for their third consecutive seasons are hitting coach Gerald Perry, bench coach Alan Trammell, first base coach Matt Sinatro, third base coach Mike Quade and bullpen coach Lester Strode.
Also retained was Ivan DeJesus, who has served as a special assistant to Piniella each of the previous two season.
