White Sox agree with Cuban 3B Viciedo

Dec 12, 2008 - 8:52 PM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox on Friday agreed to terms on a four-year, $10-million contract with third baseman Dayan Viciedo.

Under terms of the deal, Viciedo will receive a $4 million signing bonus and be paid $1 million in 2009, $1.25 million in 2010-11 and $2.5 million in 2012.

Viciedo, 19, played three seasons with Villa Clara in the Cuban League, batting .296 with 32 home runs and 123 RBI in 233 games.

The 6-1, 230-pound Viciedo hit .294 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI in 57 games last season with Villa Clara.

Also on Friday, the White Sox agreed to one-year deals with infielder Wilson Betemit and outfielder DeWayne Wise, avoiding salary arbitration with both players.

Betemit, who will earn $1.3 million next year, played in 87 games with the Yankees last season, hitting .265 with six home runs and 25 RBI.

Wise will earn $550,000 after hitting .248 with six home runs and 18 RBI in 57 games last season with the White Sox.
