Brewers sign OF Nixon to minor league deal
Dec 18, 2008 - 8:08 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday signed outfielder Trot Nixon to a minor league contract.Financial terms were not disclosed.
Nixon, 34, owns a .274 career batting average with 137 home runs and 555 RBI over 12 seasons with Boston, Cleveland and the New York Mets.
"Trot is a veteran player who brings energy and experience to our ball club," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said. "He is a valuable lefthanded batter who could see time in left field, right field and first base."
Nixon appeared in 11 games with the Mets last season, hitting .171 in 35 at-bats.
Also on Thursday the Brewers signed outfielder Chris Duffy to a minor league contract.
Duffy spent parts of the past three seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
