Astros sign IF Boone

Dec 18, 2008 - 10:18 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros on Thursday signed infielder Aaron Boone to a one-year contract worth $750,000, plus incentives.

Boone, 35, hit .241 with six home runs and 28 RBI for the Washington Nationals last season.

"Aaron gives us another veteran who can share time at third base and also help us with his overall versatility," Astros general manager Ed Wade said. "We believe that Geoff Blum, Aaron and Chris Johnson give us good depth at third. Aaron is a gamer and another solid makeup guy."

Boone owns a .264 career batting average with 126 home runs and 555 RBI in 1,142 career games over 11 seasons with Cincinnati, the New York Yankees, Cleveland, Florida and Washington.
