Report: Yankees bank Red Sox C Cash
Dec 24, 2008 - 9:04 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees beat out the Red Sox for free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira on Tuesday, then plucked Kevin Cash, Boston's backup catcher, too, according to The New York Post. The newspaper reported that Cash will sign a minor-league contract that will pay him $700,000 if he plays in the majors.
Consider Cash an insurance policy due to the team's concern over Jorge Posada possibly having issues recovering from shoulder surgery or if prospect Francisco Cervelli isn't up to the task.
Cash hit .225 last year with three homers in 142 at-bats.
