Mavericks re-sign George
Jul 12, 2007 - 5:32 PM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Devean George is returning to the Dallas Mavericks.Terms of the deal, announced by the team on Thursday, were not disclosed, but on Monday, the Dallas Morning News reported that George would be paid $2.5 million.
George, 29, opted out of the second season of his two-year contract with the Mavericks in June to become an unrestricted free agent.
Playing in 60 games for the Mavericks last season, starting 17, George averaged 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds.
After posting the league's best regular-season mark at 67-15, the Mavericks were ousted in the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs by the eighth-seeded Golden State Warriors.
A 1999 first-round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers, George played seven seasons with the team. He was with the Lakers when they won three consecutive NBA titles from 2000-02.
He enjoyed his best season in 2003-04 when he averaged 7.4 points and 4.1 rebounds.
