Mavericks F Howard has sprained left wrist

Oct 24, 2007 - 6:48 PM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard underwent an MRI on Wednesday that revealed a moderate sprain in his left wrist.

Howard, the Mavericks' leading scorer in the preseason, suffered the injury in Tuesday's game against the Chicago Bulls and will be re-evaluated in a week.

The Mavericks did not say if Howard, 27, will have to sit out the regular-season opener at Cleveland on October 31.

In seven preseason games, Howard averaged 16.1 points while shooting 55.1 percent from the field. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists.

A 2007 All-Star, Howard was Dallas' second-leading scorer last season, averaging a career-high 18.9 points in 70 games. The 6-7 swingman also averaged 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals.
