Clippers G Ricky Davis suspended for five games

Dec 30, 2008 - 1:06 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Clippers guard Ricky Davis on Monday was suspended for five games for violating the terms of the NBA's anti-drug program.

Further details of the incident were not disclosed by the league.

Davis, who has not played since November 22 with a sore left knee, will begin his suspension in the first game for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

The 6-6 Davis has averaged 14.1 points in parts of 11 seasons with six teams but has yet to live up to his potential after being drafted 21st overall in the 1998 draft by the Charlotte Hornets.

Davis perhaps is known best for being a losing player and showboat, personifying that by once trying to notch a triple-double by intentionally missing a shot on his own basket.

In his first season with the Clippers, Davis has averaged just 4.3 points in 13 games - mostly in a reserve role.
