Brown, Scott earn monthly coaching honors

Jan 2, 2009 - 9:06 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Mike Brown of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Byron Scott of the New Orleans Hornets on Friday were named the NBA's top coaches for December.

Brown guided the Cavaliers to a league-best 12-2 record in December to earn the Eastern Conference award. It marked the second-best December in franchise history, behind only a 13-2 record in 1988.

The Cavaliers are off to the best start in franchise history, entering Friday with a record of 26-5. The team also is the only undefeated squad at home with a mark of 16-0.

Scott was selected for the Western Conference honor after his team finished December with a 10-3 record.

The Hornets limited all but two of their opponents to 95 or fewer points during the month, finishing 3-0 against Southwest Division foes and 6-1 against the Western Conference.

The Hornets have won 14 of their last 18 games and own the second-best record in the conference at 19-9.
