Report: Suns' Richardson accused of DUI

Jan 6, 2009 - 12:36 AM PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Phoenix Suns swingman Jason Richardson was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Arizona Republic on Monday.

The newspaper said that Richardson was stopped by a Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community officer on December 21.

Citing a citation filed at West Mesa Justice Court, the Republic said that he was accused of failure to drive in one lane and speeding at 2:48 a.m. on the Loop 101 freeway and Thomas Road.

The 26-year-old Richardson was released after the citation, which also said he was clocked at 65 miles-per-hour in a 55 zone while driving his white 2008 Mercedes Benz, according to the report.

It was the second high-profile DUI stop in the greater Phoenix area recently. NBA legend and former Sun Charles Barkley also was arrested last month in nearby Scottsdale on similar charges.

Richardson, who has averaged 17.6 points and 4.3 rebounds this season, was acquired in a trade with the Charlotte Bobcats last month.
