Rookie of the Year Mitchell to leave Duquesne
Aug 29, 2007 - 6:38 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Robert Mitchell has opted for greener pastures following a stellar start to his collegiate career.The reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Mitchell has received his release from Duquesne in order to transfer, the school announced on Wednesday.
The 6-6 Mitchell was the top player for the 10-19 Dukes last season, averaging a team-best 16.4 points along with 5.4 rebounds in 28 games - 18 starts.
"Rob felt that it would be in his best interest to pursue a transfer and we accommodated him," Duquesne coach Ron Everhart said. "Rob is a great kid and we wish him the best."
Last year, Mitchell ranked ninth among freshman in Division I in scoring. It is not known at this time what school the Brooklyn native might transfer to.
