Rookie of the Year Mitchell to leave Duquesne

Aug 29, 2007 - 6:38 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Robert Mitchell has opted for greener pastures following a stellar start to his collegiate career.

The reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Mitchell has received his release from Duquesne in order to transfer, the school announced on Wednesday.

The 6-6 Mitchell was the top player for the 10-19 Dukes last season, averaging a team-best 16.4 points along with 5.4 rebounds in 28 games - 18 starts.

"Rob felt that it would be in his best interest to pursue a transfer and we accommodated him," Duquesne coach Ron Everhart said. "Rob is a great kid and we wish him the best."

Last year, Mitchell ranked ninth among freshman in Division I in scoring. It is not known at this time what school the Brooklyn native might transfer to.
