Missouri's Hannah injured in fight
Jan 28, 2008 - 6:06 PM COLUMBIA, Missouri (Ticker) -- Missouri leading scorer Stefhon Hannah suffered a broken jaw during an altercation early Sunday morning and will miss four to six weeks, the school announced Monday. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Hannah suffered the injury during a fight outside a Columbia nightclub and restaurant.
The newspaper said Hannah could not provide the Columbia police with any information regarding the incident or his assailant.
Hannah, a senior point guard averaging 14.7 points, underwent surgery Sunday at University Hospital and remained hospitalized as of Monday morning.
Sgt. Dan Hawkins told the Post-Dispatch that Hannah, 22, was found unconscious outside the Athena Night Club shortly after 1 a.m.
"According to him (Hannah), he got caught up in the middle of the disturbance," Hawkins said. "And while attempting to back out of the disturbance, he was struck in the head by an unknown object. He had no description of anyone who struck him, nor did he know anything about the disturbance."
The incident occurred after the Tigers returned home from Saturday's 66-62 victory at Colorado. Hannah scored 13 points in the win.
"After speaking with Stefhon and folks from the hospital, we have the understanding that the surgery was a success and for that, we are grateful," Missouri coach Mike Anderson said.
"While our primary concern in this case is Stefhon's well-being, we will go through the process of gathering facts and we will proceed accordingly."
Missouri (12-8) hosts Nebraska on Wednesday.
