Missouri dismisses G Hannah

Feb 13, 2008 - 1:33 AM COLUMBIA, Missouri (Ticker) -- Stefhon Hannah's troubled senior season with Missouri has ended.

Hannah, who has not played for the Tigers following his involvement in a January 27 fight at a nightclub in Columbia, was dismissed from the team, coach Mike Anderson announced on Tuesday.

In that incident, Hannah suffered a broken jaw and later was arrested along with guard Jason Horton on suspicion of third degree assault.

Missouri's leading scorer at 14.7 points, Hannah was not dismissed for that incident, but for his lack of commitment to academics. A native of Chicago, Hannah went home following the fight, missing nearly two weeks of classes.

Anderson did state that Hannah's scholarship was not pulled and that he could return to school to work toward his degree.

"Young people make mistakes, it is part of the maturation process as a youth, but when we came to Missouri, we promised the parents, our administration and our fans that we would help turn these boys into men by the time they left our program," Anderson said.

"Part of becoming a young man is accepting the consequences of your actions, not compounding them. We will continue to support Stefhon through this difficult time and his health continues to be our primary concern. We certainly hope he decides to remain in school to work towards his degree. Stefhon will always have a family here at Missouri and we look forward to watching him grow throughout his life."

The Tigers (13-11), who have dropped three of four games since the incident, travel to Nebraska on Wednesday.
