Freshman Miles expelled from Connecticut
Oct 3, 2008 - 6:29 AM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Connecticut recruit Nate Miles was expelled from school after being arrested on an assault charge, the Hartford Courant reported on its web site late Thursday.Miles, 20, was kicked out of school following an administrative hearing looking into the allegations that he assaulted a female student, the newspaper learned from Sean Patterson, Miles' youth coach and former legal guardian.
A native of Toledo, Ohio, Miles will have a chance to appeal the decision. According to the report, a written appeal must be submitted within five business days. It is unknown if Miles will decide to appeal.
The 6-7 forward is accused of attempting to force a 19-year-old female, his former girlfriend, into having sex, the report stated. The female filed a restraining order against him that was issued on September 22, and Miles reportedly broke it just 16 minutes later when he placed a call to her, leading to his arrest.
The hearing came two days after Miles was in Rockville Superior Court, answering to felony charges of violating the restraining order. He was order to counseling, which may lead to the case being dropped if he avoids any other trouble, the report stated.
Barred from campus, Miles also has a date in civil court on Monday, where it will be determined if the restraining order should remain in effect, the report said.
According to Patterson, Miles was already on his way to Toledo on Thursday evening to live with his mother, who came to Connecticut to be with her son despite the two having a limited relationship. Miles could eventually end up moving to Texas to live with Patterson.
A product of unstable upbringing, Miles attended five different high schools and had to fight to get cleared by the NCAA to play for Connecticut since committing to the school in November 2006.
