Former Florida G Lucas to transfer to Texas
Dec 29, 2008 - 4:09 PM AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Former Florida point guard Jai Lucas, who decided to leave the Gators last month, will transfer to Texas.Lucas, who made the announcement Sunday, is the son of ex-NBA player and coach John Lucas, and the brother of former Oklahoma State guard John Lucas III.
He chose the Longhorns over Rice and Baylor.
"It's always been a dream for me to play at Texas," Lucas told the Houston Chronicle. "They had everything I wanted and was looking for ... it's close to home and a big-time program. I fee like I can help the team."
The 5-11 Lucas signed with Florida and started all 36 games as a freshman, but decided prior to this season that he would leave the program.
Last year he averaged 8.5 points at Florida, led the team in 3-point shooting and was named to the Southeastern Conference all-freshman team.
Lucas will have to sit out a season before becoming eligible to play.
