CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Texas quarterback Colt McCoy told the Sporting News on Wednesday that he has every intention of returning for his senior season in 2009.

McCoy, the quarterback of the nation's top-ranked team, said he wants to play at Texas for four years.

"I've been blessed to be able to play here," he told the magazine. "Not very many people get to (start) here for four years, so what an opportunity. And if the NFL is out there for me, then I hope that I'll get to keep playing because I love to play the game."

NFL scouts have offered mixed reviews about McCoy's NFL potential, but the 6-3, 210-pounder believes he has the ability to play on the next level.

"I play a lot like Tony Romo," he said. "Maybe not as risky now, but he's a playmaker. He can make some yards with his feet, but he's also right on the money. He's accurate and he's smart with the ball."

With some of his recent performances, McCoy may have emerged as the Heisman Trophy favorite.

After leading Texas (7-0) to a 45-35 victory over then-No. 1 Oklahoma on October 11, McCoy completed a school-record 90.6 percent of his passes (29-of-32) in last week's 56-31 win over Missouri.

For the season, McCoy has a remarkable completion percentage of 81.2 while passing for 1,894 yards and 19 touchdowns. On Saturday, the Longhorns host eighth-ranked Oklahoma State in a battle of unbeatens.
