Florida CB Rickerson arrested, kicked off team
Nov 4, 2008 - 9:10 PM GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Florida cornerback Jacques Rickerson has been dismissed from the team after being arrested early Tuesday morning on a felony battery charge.Rickerson, 20, was accused of slapping his girlfriend in the face, strangling her and smothering her face with a pillow.
"Jacques Rickerson is no longer part of our team - that is not what our program is about," Gators coach Urban Meyer said in a statement.
A sophomore, Rickerson began arguing with his girlfriend after refusing to leave her home, according to Gainesville police.
Rickerson appeared in eight games this season for fifth-ranked Florida, recording 10 tackles and an interception.
