Michigan QB Threet doubtful for Ohio State

Nov 17, 2008 - 5:37 PM ANN ARBOR, Michigan (Ticker) -- Michigan could be without freshman quarterback Steven Threet when it concludes the worst season in the program's 129-year history Saturday against Ohio State.

After missing a game with a concussion, Threet returned last week against Northwestern but suffered a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter and left with four minutes remaining.

Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez said Threet, who has started eight games this season, suffered a slight shoulder separation and is listed as doubtful.

If Threet is unable to play, sophomore Nick Sheridan would make his second straight start Saturday.

Threet and Sheridan combined to complete just 12-of-36 passes for 83 yards in the 21-14 loss to Northwestern. Sheridan connected on only 8-of-29 attempts, throwing incompletions on his final eight tosses.

The defeat to the Wildcats saddled Michigan (3-8), the winningest program in college football history, with its first eight-loss season.

The status of freshman running back Sam McGuffie, who sat out last week with a shoulder injury, also is uncertain following a death in the family.
