Tennessee S Morley arrested on robbery warrant

Dec 4, 2008 - 11:40 PM KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Tennessee safety Demetrice Morley was arrested Thursday on an outstanding robbery warrant.

Morley was arrested at approximately 3 a.m. local time after police spotted him speeding.

According to the Tennessean, school officials are claiming the arrest was a result of a clerical error.

The 21-year-old Morley had an outstanding warrant for strong-armed robbery out of Miami-Dade County. Details were not immediately available.

According to the report, Miami-Dade officials plan to extradite Morley to Florida, prompting Knoxville police to obtain a fugitive from justice warrant and jail him without bond.

Tiffany Carpenter, a spokesperson for the school, told the Tennessean it is a clerical error and that Morley will be released later Thursday. The crime occurred in Morley's hometown of Miami last year while he was not at the University of Tennessee.

Morley completed 75 hours of community service and was scheduled to appear in court on September 4, but was in class at the time. Carpenter said she doesn't know why the court wasn't notified.

A new court date has been scheduled for December 23 in Miami.

A junior, Morley sat out the 2007 season due to academic issues. He had 42 tackles and two interceptions in 11 games for the Volunteers (5-7) this season.
