California goes nuts for Emerald Bowl invite

Dec 7, 2008 - 1:29 AM BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- California has accepted a bid to the Emerald Bowl and will play a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference at San Francisco's AT&T Park on December 27.

The Bears received the invite following a 48-7 victory over Washington on Saturday.

Cal will go to its sixth postseason game in Jeff Tedford's seven seasons as head coach. Cal finished the regular season with an 8-4 overall record and in fourth place in the Pac-10 with a 6-3 mark.

The six-year bowl streak is the longest in school history. The Bears own a 5-1 bowl record under Tedford, including last year's 42-38 victory over Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl.

"We are very happy to accept the Emerald Bowl's invitation," Tedford said. "It is an outstanding game with great people behind it. I'm certain that whoever our (ACC) opponent is, it will be a great game."
