Texas D-coordinator Muschamp denies interest in Auburn job

Dec 12, 2008 - 6:28 PM AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Will Muschamp evidently has no desire to bolt for Auburn. The Texas defensive coordinator is perfectly content as the heir apparent to Mack Brown.

Muschamp issued a statement Friday claiming that he will remain at Texas, dismissing previous reports that he would be named as Auburn's new head coach.

"I have not interviewed for any jobs," Muschamp said. "I'm not interested in any jobs. I'm happy here, my family loves Austin and I'm going to be at Texas."

An Alabama television station reported earlier Friday that Muschamp would replace Tommy Tuberville as Auburn's coach.

Muschamp has history with Auburn, as he was the Tigers' defensive coordinator two years ago.

But thanks to an outstanding first season as the Longhorns' defensive coordinator, Muschamp was named as Texas' head coach-in-waiting on November 18.

Tuberville, who posted an 85-40 record in 10 seasons at Auburn, resigned last week after the Tigers concluded a disappointing 5-7 campaign.

Numerous named have been linked with Auburn's coaching vacancy, including TCU head coach Gary Patterson, Buffalo head coach Turner Gill, Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach, Tulsa head coach Todd Graham and Georgia assistant Rodney Garner.
