Oregon State football coach Riley gets extension

Dec 30, 2008 - 5:56 PM EL PASO, Texas (Ticker) -- Oregon State football coach Mike Riley agreed in principle to a one-year contract extension Tuesday, one day before the Beavers face Pittsburgh in the Sun Bowl.

Riley, who now is under contract through 2015, has been working under a six-year deal that rolled over one year for every bowl appearance made by the Beavers.

Oregon State, which finished 8-4 this season, has reached a bowl in five of the last six seasons under Riley.

"There is no question we are on the right track in all facets of the football program," athletic director Bob De Carolis said. "We have enjoyed some of our best seasons ever with coach Riley at the helm, and he has developed a program that continues to compete at the highest level."

"I appreciate this commitment by Bob De Carolis and the university," said Riley, who made $1 million this season. "I have a terrific job at a place that I truly love. The entire coaching staff has built a program in all areas that we are proud of."

Riley, 55, owns a 55-42 record in two different stints at Oregon State. The Beavers, currently ranked 25th, have gone 47-28 over the last six seasons.
