Alabama RB Coffee to enter NFL draft

Jan 9, 2009 - 11:55 PM TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- Alabama running back Glen Coffee announced on Friday that he will forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft.

The 6-1, 198-pound Coffee ran for 1,383 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns en route to earning first-team All Southeastern Conference honors.

He tied former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander for the second-most single-season rushing yards in school history.

"I really enjoyed my time at the University of Alabama, but I think it is the right time for me to move on to the NFL," Coffee said in a statement.

"Alabama has been a tremendous place for me to develop as both a football player and a person. I couldn't have asked for a better group of coaches. I want to personally thank Coach (Nick) Saban and Coach (Burton) Burns for everything they have done me."

Coffee finishes his collegiate career with 2,107 yards and 14 touchdowns.
