KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The Kansas City Chiefs are changing quarterbacks - again.
Chiefs coach Herman Edwards told the Kansas City Star on Monday that Brodie Croyle will start against the Tennessee Titans on October 19.
Kansas City, which is coming off a dreadful performance in a 34-0 loss at Carolina, has a bye this week.
It is the fifth change at quarterback already for the Chiefs (1-4) and the second turn for Croyle, who is 0-7 lifetime as a starter.
"We feel he can do some things for us, and it's good to have him back," Edwards told the newspaper. "(His teammates) got to put some of it on themselves, though. They can't just expect him to ride in on a white horse. We're hoping he can stay healthy and help us win some games. He's capable of doing that."
Croyle opened the season as the starter but suffered a separated shoulder in Week One. Damon Huard took over in Week Two, but also was hurt, opening the door for rookie Tyler Thigpen to start Week Three - a 38-14 loss at Atlanta.
That led to a second chance for Huard, who guided the Chiefs to a 33-19 win over Denver, snapping a 12-game losing streak.
But the good vibes quickly disappeared in the blowout at Carolina, which marked the first time Kansas City was shut out since December 2002.
The injury-prone Croyle acknowledged he must be able to stay on the field to provide some long-term stability to the position.
"The quarterback has to be out there, has to play," he said. "I haven't been there. Obviously, when I get back, it's vital for me to stay healthy and vital for me to try to find a way to help this team win."
