Colts QB Manning, 49ers QB Hill earn weekly honors
Nov 19, 2008 - 6:02 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Quarterback Peyton Manning on Wednesday was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Indianapolis Colts to their third consecutive win.Shaun Hill of the San Francisco 49ers won the honor in the NFC.
Manning finished 30-of-46 for 320 yards and zero interceptions to lead the Colts to a 33-27 victory over the Houston Texans. He has thrown 11 scoring passes in November.
It marked a season high for completions and was the 45th career 300-yard effort by Manning, who claimed his eighth weekly honor.
Hill had a magnificent day in helping the 49ers snap a six-game losing streak. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for another - all in the first half - as San Francisco routed the St. Louis Rams, 35-16.
Finishing 15-of-20 for 213 yards, Hill had a perfect 158.3 passing rating in the first half as the 49ers built an overwhelming 35-3 lead.
Defensive Player of the Week awards went to linebacker James Harrison of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC and cornerback Aaron Ross of the New York Giants in the NFC.
Harrison had a sack and forced a fumble in the end zone that resulted in a safety in the Steelers' 11-10 win over the San Diego Chargers. He also returned an interception 33 yards to set up a field goal in winning his second career weekly award.
Ross had a pair of interceptions, including one he returned 50 yards for a touchdown, to lift the New York Giants to a 30-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. It was the second career two-interception game for Ross, who led the Giants with six tackles.
Special team honors went to kick returner Leon Washington of the New York Jets and placekicker Neil Rackers of the Arizona Cardinals.
Washington had a 92-yard kickoff return to spark the Jets to their fourth straight victory, a 34-31 overtime win over New England that gave them sole possession of first place in the AFC East. It was his fourth career kick return for a TD, giving him the all-time franchise lead.
Rackers was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in the Cardinals' 26-20 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. He connected from 38, 48, 54 and 26 yards, giving him a streak of 13 consecutive field goals. It marked his third career weekly honor.
