Saints place TE Campbell, RB Stecker on IR

Nov 19, 2008 - 7:48 PM METARIE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- The injuries continue to pile up for the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints on Wednesday placed tight end Mark Campbell on injured reserve, one day after running back Aaron Stecker went on season-ending IR.

Campbell suffered an MCL injury in his left knee during Sunday's 30-20 victory at Kansas City. The team now has 13 players who have gone on IR this season.

According to the Times-Picayune, the Saints filled Campbell's roster spot with running back Mike Bell, who signed with the team Wednesday. Free-agent fullback Darian Barnes replaced Stecker on the roster.

Primarily a blocking tight end, Campbell has 12 receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns while sharing time with Jeremy Shockey and Billy Miller.

Stecker aggravated a hamstring injury in the victory over the Chiefs. He has battled the injury all season and had just eight carries for 43 yards.

The Saints could find themselves further depleted after three players - running back Deuce McAllister and defensive ends Will Smith and Charles Grant - are awaiting to hear the results of their appeal for using a diuretic on the NFL's banned list of substances.

All three are facing possible four-game suspensions, although Grant also had been placed on IR.
