Vikings DE Allen fined for hit

Nov 19, 2008 - 10:29 PM EDEN PRAIRIE, Minnesota (Ticker) -- Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen apparently has avoided a suspension for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said during his press conference Wednesday that Allen was fined $25,000, but not suspended.

Allen met with NFL officials in New York on Tuesday. Childress said defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier accompanied Allen, who signed a six-year, $72 million contract with Minnesota after he was acquired from Kansas City in the offseason.

In a November 9 game against the Packers at the Metrodome, Allen hit Rodgers high after the quarterback released the ball, receiving a roughing-the-passer penalty.

"(The NFL) let me know this morning that they're not doing anything with him, in terms of suspending him," Childress said.

That would be a relief for the Vikings, who soon could lose Pro Bowl defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams to suspensions.

The NFL will hear on Thursday the appeal of the two players who have tested positive for banned supplements under the league's steroid and performance-enhancement policy.

Allen faced a possible suspension after being docked $50,000 for a pair of low hits on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in Week Nine.
