Report: Browns QB Quinn done for season

Nov 26, 2008 - 3:41 AM SANTA MONICA, California (Ticker) -- The quarterback controversy in Cleveland is over - for now.

FoxSports.com reported on Tuesday that Cleveland Browns starter Brady Quinn will miss the rest of the season after doctors said that the break to his right index finger has gotten worse since he tried to play through the injury.

According to the report, not only has the break in his right index finger worsened, but it is also started to injure the tendons as well. The report stated that Quinn met with renowned orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews and others. All agreed that Quinn should be shut down before the tendons broke from the bone.

Quinn suffered the injury in a 29-27 win over Buffalo on November 17. The former Notre Dame star was was able to make a third straight start in place of the ineffective Derek Anderson in a 16-6 loss to Houston last weekend, but was benched after throwing his second interception.

The 22nd pick of the 2007 draft, Quinn completed only 8-of-18 passes for just 94 yards and head coach Romeo Crennel said the injury contributed to the poor performance.

Earlier on Tuesday, Crennel said he was sticking with Quinn as his starter, but now Anderson has his starting job by default. Anderson was benched following a 37-27 loss to Baltimore on November 2, in which the Browns (4-7) blew a 13-point second-half lead.

Quinn completed 48-of-97 passes for 563 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in three starts. Meanwhile, Anderson has completed 126-of-257 passes for 1505 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine starts.

The disappointing Browns, who went 10-6 last season and barely missed the playoffs, host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
