Record: 7-5
Next Opponent: at Detroit, December 7
QB Gus Frerotte's 99-yard touchdown pass to WR Bernard Berrian
Sunday night was the longest play from scrimmage in team
history. It tied an NFL record, accomplished 10 times
previously, the last coming in 2004 when Cleveland's Jeff Garcia
and Andre Davis hooked up for a scoring pass. The Vikings'
longest pass play prior to Sunday was November 11 1962 when Fran
Tarkenton connected with Charley Ferguson on a 89-yarder for a
touchdown. ... The Metrodome now holds three NFL records for
longest plays in different categories. Berrian's touchdown is
tied for the longest pass. Tony Dorsett is tied for the longest
run with a 99-yard touchdown run, and Antonio Cromartie had a
109-yard touchdown return on a missed field goal last season.
... RB Adrian Peterson continues to climb the record books for
Minnesota. In just his second season, Peterson has now run for
2,652 yards. It is 10th all-time in club history. He is one
game away from tying the Vikings' record for most 100-yard games
in a season. His 131 yards Sunday gives him 1,311 for the
season, already the third most in team history for a single
season. Robert Smith owns the top mark with 1,521 yards in
2000. His 100-yard rushing game Sunday was the 13th of his
career, which surpasses Eddie George for sixth place in NFL
history for most 100-yard games in the first two seasons in the
NFL. George had 12 such efforts in his first two years. Eric
Dickerson owns the record with 21 100-yard games in his first
two seasons from 1983-84. ... The Vikings added former DT John
Randle to the team's Ring of Honor in a halftime celebration.
Randle, the NFL's all-time sack leader from the defensive tackle
position, had 137 1/2 sacks in his career, 114 as a member of
the Vikings. As an undrafted free agent from Texas A & I, he
played 11 seasons for Minnesota, earning Pro Bowl honors six
times.
