Ducks name D Scott Niedermayer captain
Oct 7, 2008 - 9:24 PM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Veteran defenseman Scott Niedermayer, who helped lead the Anaheim Ducks to the Stanley Cup in 2007, was named the team's captain Tuesday.It is a role Niedermayer, 35, previously held with the club from 2005-2007. He relinquished the captaincy when he sat out the first 34 games of last season while contemplating retirement.
"Scotty is a tremendous leader and has been for his entire career," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said.
Niedermayer, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2007, also was on three Stanley Cup-winning teams with the New Jersey Devils.
The Ducks also named defenseman Chris Pronger, 33, and center Ryan Getzlaf, 23, as alternate captains.
